Our chief building material is hardwoods. The majority of our wood is sourced locally from local mills cutting local trees, or by us personally through agreements with private individuals. Presently we do not work with exotic woods, and would prefer not to; but we will do so if clients desire them. Below is our list of most used, currently available, or readily available materials.
Almost all of our wood comes into the shop as rough-cut boards. We almost never start with pre-surfaced lumber.
Some of the more unusual wood that we procure–such as apple, hawthorne, spalted beech, figured aspen–are not normally found in commercial distribution. So we personally acquire and mill these trees ourselves, on a small scale. Thus, pieces with these types of wood have the intimacy of every step of the process–from tree to finished work–being done by one person.
We are fanatics about wood grain, and the unique character each tree holds! This is why we search for interesting and uncommon species, as well as seeking boards that are time-aged in the rough-cut or log state, as this will allow for different character to develop even in common woods like oak or cherry, which would not be found in boards that are quickly processed from fresh cuttings.
We will never build pieces from plywood in any way. Our only use of plywood is in the form of backings, in between drawers, etc., where neither structural nor visual properties are a major concern.
Ready For Use
Please note: These species are what we have available in our personal storage. Other species not listed above can be used at the client’s request, granted the commercial availability.

These are boards that we have recently milled, and will take time to be usable in any pieces.
Small Stock
This lumber is in small sizes, and is therefore used in select applications, such as trim, inlay, cabinet doors, or small tabletops.
